Anjali Waghmare agrees to continue as Kasab's lawyer

A day after seeking time to consider appearing in the 26/11 attacks trial, advocate Anjali Waghmare on Wednesday informed a special court that she was willing to represent arrested terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab.

Waghmare had on Tuesday asked the court for a day to think over whether she wanted to represent Kasab following protests by Shiv Sena activists outside her residence in Worli after she was appointed defence counsel by the special court.

She had also given a letter to Sena activists on Monday apologising for taking up the representation of Kasab and said she would withdraw from the case....

Ajmal Kasab's letter to be scanned for codes

The letter writen by Mohammed Ajmal Amir Iman aka Kasab to his parents in Pakistan is not yet posted as the police fear that the letter might contain some encrypted message to his handlars in Pakistan.

Kasab has reportedly admitted to being trained on how to use dots, letters and symbols in a specific way to communicate with his accomplices. "Kasab has told us that during his advance training, he has been taught to communicate in various codes to evade interception. We are intentionally not posting his letter, as it may be coded, too," said Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) Rakesh Maria.

According to crime branch officials, Kasab also revealed that he received training on various other ways to communicate, including the use of orange and lime juice to encrypt letters, which can be decrypted (read) using special tactics known only to his accomplices. On Sunday, Kasab was given a piece of paper and a pen to write a letter to his parents after he expressed his desire to do so.

He wrote a letter in simple Urdu and gave police his native address, which is in Faridkot village under Dipalpur tehsil, in Okada district in Pakistan.

While Ajmal, who is reportedly in early twenties, was nabbed near Girgaum Chowpatty, the nine others were killed by security forces.

Police officers said this was Ajmal's first operation while some of the others had participated in terror attacks earlier.
